How to Draw Hurdles

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw hurdles in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave room at the sides for arms and below for legs.

  2. Step 2: The face

Draw 2 small oval eyes with a dot in each, a tiny U nose and a big smile.

  3. Step 3: Hair and sweatband

Start left on the head. Draw round hair tufts over the top, stopping on the right. Add a sweatband below.

  4. Step 4: Neck, vest and number

Draw 2 neck lines, then a vest from the left one round to the right one. Add a number box.

  5. Step 5: Arms up

From each shoulder draw an arm out to a round elbow, then up, getting thinner.

  6. Step 6: Hands in the air

At the top of each arm draw a mitten pointing up, with a little thumb bump on the inside.

  7. Step 7: Shorts

From the vest's bottom left draw shorts: left leg down, right leg out sideways, and stop at the right corner.

  8. Step 8: Lead leg

From the right leg hole draw a long leg, thinner at the ankle. Add a toe-up sneaker with a sole.

Tip This leg flies straight out in front.

  9. Step 9: Trailing leg

From the left leg hole draw a thigh, a bent knee and a shin kicked up. Add a matching sneaker.

Tip Bend the back leg at the knee so it stays high off the ground.

  10. Step 10: Hurdle and ground

Under the leg draw a thin striped bar on 2 tall thin legs with flat feet. Add a ground line.

Tip Add 2 speed lines behind the runner. Only the hurdle touches the ground.

  11. Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the face, neck, arms, hands and legs peach, with pink cheeks. Keep the eyes and sneakers white.

  12. Step 12: Red vest, brown hair

Colour the vest and sweatband red, leaving the number box white, and the hair brown.

  13. Step 13: Navy shorts, striped hurdle

Colour the shorts navy, the hurdle stripes black and its legs grey. Your hurdler is done!
