How to Draw a Hot Air Balloon
Draw a hot air balloon in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big dome.
Step 1: Big dome
Near the top, draw one huge rainbow, wider than your hand. Start on the left and stop on the right.
Tip Leave lots of room underneath for the basket.
Step 2: Down to the neck
Start at each end of the dome. Draw lines down and in to a narrow neck. Join them.
Step 3: Friendly face
High on the balloon, draw a round patch. Inside, draw 2 big eyes with dots and shines, then a smile.
Step 4: Curved stripes
From the top, draw 2 curves down each side. Stop one on the neck, one on the edge just above.
Tip The stripes go around the face, never across it.
Step 5: Bell skirt
Start on the left end of the neck. Draw a little bell down and across. Stop on the right end.
Step 6: Four ropes
Start 4 straight lines on the bottom of the bell, 2 each side. Stop them 2 fingers down.
Step 7: Basket
Join the rope ends with a flat line. Draw a box down from it. Add a rim under the top.
Step 8: Woven basket
Draw 2 more lines across the basket, then 4 lines from the rim down to the bottom.
Step 9: Two clouds
Draw a bumpy cloud high on the left of the balloon, and a smaller one low on the right.
Step 10: Yellow stripes
Colour the 2 thin stripes beside the middle one, and the bell, yellow. Leave the face and eyes white.
Step 11: Sky and clouds
Colour the sky light blue all around the balloon, ropes and basket. Leave the 2 clouds white.
Step 12: Red stripes, brown basket
Colour the middle and outside stripes red, around the face. Colour the basket brown. Your balloon is done!
