How to Draw a High Jump

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a high jump in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Egg head

On the right of your paper draw an egg head lying tipped back, chin to the left.

Tip Leave room on the left for the body and above for the arms.

  2. Step 2: The face

On the upper left of the head draw 2 oval eyes with black dots. Add a smile near the chin.

Tip The jumper is on their back, so the face looks up at the sky.

  3. Step 3: Short hair

Start above the top eye. Draw hair round the right end and under the head, then a fringe line back.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the hair.

  4. Step 4: Arched body

From behind the chin draw a bean body that climbs up to the left like a rainbow.

Tip The tummy is on top, like the top of a hill.

  5. Step 5: Shorts

At the top of the arch draw shorts, their short legs pointing down to the left.

  6. Step 6: Bent legs

From the shorts draw a leg going left, then bending down at the knee. Draw the other leg beside it.

Tip Legs are wide at the top and thin at the ankle.

  7. Step 7: Two shoes

On the end of each leg draw a round shoe with its toe pointing left.

  8. Step 8: Arms flung up

From the shoulder draw 2 arms reaching up to mitten hands. Add a sleeve line from edge to edge.

Tip Rub out the body line inside the front arm.

  9. Step 9: Bar and posts

Under the jumper draw a long thin bar. Stand a tall post with a flat foot behind each end.

Tip The bar must not touch the jumper, or it would fall off!

  10. Step 10: Landing mat

Draw a ground line under the posts, from the left edge to the right. Sit a thick mat on it.

Tip Give the mat round corners so it looks soft.

  11. Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheek

Colour a pink cheek. Colour the face, arms, hands and legs peach. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Yellow top, grey posts

Colour the top and its sleeve yellow. Colour the 2 posts grey.

  13. Step 13: Red and brown

Colour the shorts, both shoes and the bar red. Colour the hair brown.

  14. Step 14: Blue mat

Colour the thick mat blue. Go over your lines and your high jump is done!
