How to Draw a Hickory Dickory Dock
Draw a hickory dickory dock in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tall case.
Step 1: The tall case
Draw a tall thin box, left of the middle of your page. Inside it draw a tall glass door.
Tip Leave room above for the dial and on the right for the mouse.
Step 2: Mouse head and ears
On the right of the case draw a head with a pointed snout aiming up. Add 2 round ears.
Tip The front ear has a circle inside and covers a bit of the head. The other ear peeks out behind.
Step 3: Eye, nose and smile
Draw a round nose on the snout tip, a big eye with a black dot, and a small smile.
Tip Leave a little white shine in the eye.
Step 4: Plump body
Under the head draw a long plump body, like a bean standing on end.
Tip Leave a gap between the body and the case for the legs.
Step 5: Four climbing legs
Draw 2 legs from the body across to the case, with paws holding the edge. Add 2 more peeking behind.
Tip Rub out the body and case lines inside the legs and paws.
Step 6: Long thin tail
From the bottom of the body draw a long tail trailing down, curling out to a thin point.
Step 7: Hood and round top
On top of the case draw a wider box for the hood. Add a round hill on top.
Step 8: Round dial
In the hood draw a big circle. Add 12 short tick marks round the inside, where the numbers go.
Tip Do the top, bottom and two sides first, then 2 more in each gap.
Step 9: One o'clock
From a dot in the middle draw a long hand straight up and a short hand up to the right.
Tip The hands say one o'clock.
Step 10: Swinging pendulum
From the middle of the door's top edge draw a rod slanting down to the left, to a round disc.
Tip The slant shows it swinging: tick, tock.
Step 11: Base and floor
Under the case draw a wide flat box with a small foot at each end. Add a long floor line.
Step 12: Blue glass, gold disc
Colour the glass door light blue. Colour the pendulum disc and the dot on the dial yellow.
Step 13: Pink and grey mouse
Colour the inside of the ear, the nose and the tail pink. Colour the rest of the mouse grey.
Tip Leave the eye white.
Step 14: Colour the wood
Colour the hood and case light brown, leaving the dial white. Colour the round top, base and feet dark brown.
