How to Draw a Numbat

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a numbat in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and snout.

Print

  1. Step 1: Head and snout

On the left of your paper, draw an egg head that narrows to a long pointed snout.

Tip Make the snout about as long as the round part of the head.

  2. Step 2: Nose, smile and eye

Colour a black nose on the tip. Draw a small smile on the snout and a big eye up high.

Tip Give the eye a black dot and a little white shine.

  3. Step 3: Pointy ear

On top at the back of the head, draw a small rounded pointy ear with a smaller one inside.

  4. Step 4: Eye stripe

Draw a long thin leaf from the snout, past the eye, to behind it. Stop its lines at the eye.

  5. Step 5: Long body

Start behind the ear. Draw a long bean body along the back, round the bottom, and stop under the head.

  6. Step 6: Front leg

Start on the chest under the head. Draw a thick leg down to a round paw. Stop on the tummy.

Tip Rub out the tummy line inside the leg.

  7. Step 7: Back leg

Start on the tummy near the back. Draw a thick leg down to a round paw. Stop on the bottom.

Tip Rub out the body line inside the leg.

  8. Step 8: Far legs

Draw 2 far legs peeking out between the near legs, each half hidden behind a near leg.

  9. Step 9: Toes and ground

Add 2 short toe lines on each near paw. Draw a long ground line under all 4 paws.

  10. Step 10: Bushy tail

Start on the back near the bottom. Draw a bushy tail standing up with soft bumps. Stop on the bottom.

Tip Rub out the body line inside the tail.

  11. Step 11: Back half line

Start on the back just behind the head. Draw a gentle curve down to the tummy, between the far legs.

  12. Step 12: White bands

On the back half, draw 4 long U shapes hanging down from the back line, for bold bands.

  13. Step 13: Pink and ginger

Colour the inner ear pink. Colour the head, ear, front half and front legs ginger, around the stripe.

Tip Go around the nose and pink inner ear, and leave the eye white.

  14. Step 14: Brown back half

Colour the eye stripe, back half, back legs and tail brown, around the eye and the white bands.

    Tip Leave the bands white.
