How to Draw a Fossa

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a fossa in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Egg head

Near the top left draw a big egg for the head, a little taller than wide.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for a long body.

  2. Step 2: Big round ears

On top of the head draw 2 big round ears with a ring inside each. The left one is smaller.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

Just above the middle of the head draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Snout and smile

Below the eyes draw an oval snout poking out left. From its black nose, draw down into a w.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.

  5. Step 5: Long low back

Start on the head below the eyes. Draw a neck dip, a long low back, then curl down and stop.

Tip A fossa is long and sleek, so keep the back low and almost flat.

  6. Step 6: Front leg

Draw a ground line. From under the chin, draw a chest and leg down to a plump paw, then up.

Tip The leg leans forward and gets thinner near the paw.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and back leg

From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh, a bend, a plump paw, up to the bottom.

Tip The back leg bends in above the paw.

  8. Step 8: Far legs

Behind each big leg draw 1 more leg peeking out, with a small paw on the ground.

Tip Only part of each far leg shows.

  9. Step 9: Toes

On each big paw draw 2 short curved toe lines. Draw 1 on each small paw.

  10. Step 10: Very long tail

Start on top of the bottom. Draw a long thick tail up, over in a big arch, and back down.

Tip The tail is as long as the whole body, and thick all the way to its round tip.

  11. Step 11: Tan and peach

Colour the snout tan and the inside of each ear peach.

  12. Step 12: Colour it brown

Colour the fossa brown, around the snout and ear middles. Leave the eyes white.
