How to Draw a Hogan

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a hogan in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round roof.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round roof

Start on the left. Draw a low round roof up, over the top and down to the right.

Tip Make it much wider than it is tall.

  2. Step 2: Roof edge

Start at one end of the roof. Draw a short line up, a long flat line, a short line down.

  3. Step 3: Log walls

Start under each end of the roof. Draw 5 small bumps down for the ends of the logs.

Tip The bumps stop level on both sides.

  4. Step 4: The ground

Draw a long ground line under the walls, from one side of the paper to the other.

  5. Step 5: Two corners

Start at each bend in the roof edge. Draw a straight line down. Stop on the ground.

Tip Now the house has 3 walls you can see.

  6. Step 6: The doorway

In the middle of the front wall draw a tall square doorway. Start on the ground, stop on the ground.

  7. Step 7: Door frame

Draw a bigger square around the doorway, from the ground up, across and back to the ground.

Tip The frame is made of thick logs.

  8. Step 8: Front logs

Draw 4 flat lines across the front wall, from corner to corner. Stop at the door frame.

  9. Step 9: Side logs

On each side wall draw 4 lines. Start at the front logs. Stop in the dips between the bumps.

Tip These lines slope down a little.

  10. Step 10: Pipe and smoke

Stand a short pipe on the roof. Start and stop a wavy wisp of smoke on its top.

Tip A stove inside keeps the hogan warm.

  11. Step 11: Two bushes

Draw a small bumpy bush on the ground at each side of the hogan.

  12. Step 12: Sand wall, grey pipe

Go over your lines. Colour the front wall sand and the pipe grey. Leave the smoke white.

  13. Step 13: Tan walls, earth roof

Colour the 2 side walls and the door frame tan. Colour the round roof ginger, like dry earth.

  14. Step 14: Dark doorway, green bushes

Colour the doorway dark brown and the 2 bushes green. Your hogan is done!
