How to Draw a Helicoprion

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a helicoprion in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and chin.

Print

  1. Step 1: Head and chin

Draw a big C for the head. Start high, go round a soft nose and a deep chin. Stop underneath.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the body.

  2. Step 2: One big eye

Near the top draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot and leave 2 white shines.

  3. Step 3: Back and fin

Start on top of the head. Curve up into a big sail fin, then along the back to the tail.

Tip No dip before the fin: the back climbs straight into it.

  4. Step 4: The tail

Start at the tail neck. Draw a long top point and a short bottom point. Stop under your start.

Tip The tail is lopsided: long on top, short underneath.

  5. Step 5: Round tummy

Start at the chin. Draw one big round tummy under the body, curving up to meet the tail.

  6. Step 6: The tooth wheel

Just above the chin draw a big circle. Start a swirl on its edge and wind in to the middle.

Tip This wheel of teeth grew in the bottom jaw. Make it big.

  7. Step 7: Saw teeth

Start on the circle's front. Draw 5 big pointed teeth over the top. Stop on the circle's back.

Tip Each tooth is a bit bigger than the last. No teeth underneath: that part sits inside the jaw.

  8. Step 8: Open mouth

Start at the face's front. Draw one lip over the teeth and one under. Stop both behind the eye.

Tip The bottom lip runs behind the wheel and comes out on the other side.

  9. Step 9: Gills

Just behind the eye, draw 3 short curves like ) ) ). Make the middle one tallest.

  10. Step 10: Tummy stripe

Start at the mouth corner. Draw one long gentle curve along the side. Stop on the tummy near the tail.

  11. Step 11: Side fin

Start on the stripe behind the gills. Draw a fin sweeping back and down, and stop on the stripe.

  12. Step 12: Cream tummy, pink mouth

Colour the jaw and tummy cream, around the tooth wheel. Colour the mouth pink. Leave the wheel and teeth white.

  13. Step 13: Colour the top grey

Colour everything above the mouth and the stripe grey, and the side fin too. Leave the eye white.

Tip Go over your lines and your Helicoprion is done!
