How to Draw a Parrot

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a parrot in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top left draw a big round head, wider than tall. Let the top rise into 3 soft puffs.

  2. Step 2: Big hooked beak

Start high on the head, hook out and down to a point, back to the chin. Add a lower beak.

Tip Keep the point sharp and hooking back, like a fingernail.

  3. Step 3: One big eye

A finger behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white speck.

  4. Step 4: Plump body

Start on the back of the head. Curve down to the bottom, round a fat belly, up to the beak.

Tip The body is a plump egg, narrower than the head.

  5. Step 5: Long fan tail

Start at the bottom. Draw a long fan down and back, round the end, and back to the tummy.

  6. Step 6: Folded wing

Start under the back of the head. Draw a round shoulder, then sweep back to a point above the tail.

  7. Step 7: Front foot

Under the front of the tummy draw a short leg that narrows, then 2 chubby round toes curling down.

  8. Step 8: Back foot

A thumb behind it draw the same short leg and 2 chubby toes, starting and ending on the tummy.

  9. Step 9: The branch

Just under the tummy draw a thick branch across, stopping at each toe. Rub out the tail inside it.

Tip The toes curl over the front of the branch, so the bird really grips.

  10. Step 10: Yellow chest, grey beak

Colour the chest yellow, from the chin down the tummy. Colour the beak, legs and toes grey.

  11. Step 11: Blue wing, red tail

Colour the wing blue and the top tail feather blue too. Colour the rest of the tail red.

  12. Step 12: Green parrot, brown branch

Colour the head and body green around the chest and wing, leaving the eye white. Colour the branch brown.

Tip Colour the branch around the grey toes.
