How to Draw a Hawk Flying

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a hawk flying in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round head

Start on the left of your paper. Curve up over a big round head and stop low at the back.

  2. Step 2: Hooked beak

From the front end of the head line, draw a small hooked beak. Close it with a short line.

Tip Short and fat, not a long bill.

  3. Step 3: Big shiny eye

Draw a big round eye with a black dot and a shine. Add a small smile behind the beak.

  4. Step 4: Plump body

From the head's back end, draw a long back to a round end. Curve under the tummy to the beak.

  5. Step 5: Big open wing

Start on the back behind the head. Draw a big wing to a round tip, then 4 soft bumps down.

  6. Step 6: Other wing

From the back, draw a strip up beside the big wing to a round tip. Stop on the big wing.

  7. Step 7: Fan tail

From the round end's top, draw a fan tail out behind, wider at the end, back to its bottom.

  8. Step 8: Throat and streaks

Curve a line under the eye, from the beak to the back of the head. Add 3 tummy dashes.

  9. Step 9: Puffy cloud

Under the head, draw a little cloud with 3 round puffs and a flat bottom.

  10. Step 10: Cream and yellow

Colour the throat and tummy cream and the beak yellow. Leave the eye white.

  11. Step 11: Rusty orange tail

Colour the fan tail rusty orange. That is this hawk's badge.

  12. Step 12: Brown head and wings

Colour the big wing light brown, then the head and other wing dark brown, around the white eye.
