How to Draw a Harbor

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a harbor in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the water.

Print

  1. Step 1: The water

Draw 3 gentle wavy lines from edge to edge: one across the middle and 2 lower down.

Tip Calm harbour water has small, soft waves.

  2. Step 2: The harbour wall

Start at the left edge, above the water. Draw a flat line past the middle, then down to the water.

Tip This strong stone wall keeps the big waves out.

  3. Step 3: The lighthouse tower

On the end of the wall draw a tall tower, a little narrower at the top than the bottom.

Tip Leave room above it for the lamp.

  4. Step 4: Lamp and roof

On top draw a wide flat box, then a small box for the lamp and a pointy roof.

  5. Step 5: Tower stripes

Draw 3 lines across the tower, evenly spaced, to make 4 stripes.

  6. Step 6: Stone blocks

Draw a long line along the middle of the wall. Add 2 short lines above it and 2 below.

Tip Put the short lines in different places, like bricks.

  7. Step 7: The sailboat hull

On the right, sitting in the middle waves, draw a boat hull with a flat deck and a pointy front.

Tip The bottom of the boat hides under the water.

  8. Step 8: Mast and sails

Start on the deck. Draw a mast straight up and stop. Add a curved sail each side and a flag.

  9. Step 9: The little boat

On the left, in the same waves, draw a smaller hull pointing the other way.

Tip Its pointy front faces the left edge.

  10. Step 10: The cabin

On its deck draw a cabin with a round top. Add a long window with round ends.

  11. Step 11: The sun

In the top right draw a round sun with 8 short rays.

  12. Step 12: Yellow and red

Colour the sun and lamp yellow. Colour the roof, 2 tower stripes, the flag and the sailboat hull red.

Tip Leave the other 2 stripes white.

  13. Step 13: Grey wall, green boat

Colour the wall and the flat box under the lamp grey. Colour the little boat's hull green.

  14. Step 14: Blue sea

Colour the sea and the window blue, going around the boats. Leave the sails and cabin white.
