How to Draw a Gothic Arch
Draw a gothic arch in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pointed arch.
Step 1: The pointed arch
Start low on the left. Curve up to a point at the top, then down. Stop low on the right.
Tip It is a rainbow with a point. Make both curves the same shape.
Step 2: The inner arch
Inside it draw a smaller pointed arch. Start and stop level with the feet of the big arch.
Step 3: Two top blocks
Under each foot of the arch draw a flat block, a little wider than the stone band.
Step 4: Two pillars
Draw a straight pillar down from each block. Make both pillars the same length.
Step 5: Two feet
Under each pillar draw a flat block for its foot, wider than the block at the top.
Step 6: The ground
Start near the left edge. Draw a straight ground line under both feet, stopping near the right edge.
Step 7: The top joint
From the point of the small arch draw a short line straight up to the point of the big arch.
Step 8: Left stones
Draw 3 short lines across the left curve, from the small arch to the big arch, to make 4 stones.
Tip Tilt each line so it points at the foot of the other pillar.
Step 9: Right stones
Draw 3 short lines across the right curve to match, from the small arch to the big arch.
Step 10: Pillar stones
Draw 2 flat lines across each pillar, from side to side, to stack 3 stones.
Step 11: Blue sky
Colour the space inside the arch sky blue, down to the ground.
Step 12: Sandy stone
Colour the arch and both pillars a sandy yellow.
Step 13: Brown blocks
Go over your lines. Colour the 4 flat blocks light brown. Your gothic arch is done!
