How to Draw Harbor Cranes
Draw harbor cranes in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the quay.
Step 1: The quay
Below the middle, draw a line from one edge across to the other, and a wavy line under it.
Step 2: The first crane
On the left draw 2 tall legs on the quay. Join their tops with a flat box and a cab.
Step 3: Its boom
From the top box draw a long thin arm sticking out to the right, sloping up a little.
Tip These cranes look like giraffes bending over the ships.
Step 4: Cable and box
Start under the tip of the boom and draw a cable straight down. Stop at a small hanging box.
Step 5: The tall crane
On the right draw a taller crane the same way: 2 legs, a flat top box and a cab.
Step 6: The long boom
From its top box draw a longer arm sticking out to the right, sloping up a little.
Step 7: Its cable and box
Start under its boom tip and draw a cable straight down. Stop at a box.
Step 8: Stacked boxes
On the quay draw container boxes: 2 stacked between the cranes and 1 on the right end.
Step 9: More water
A little lower, draw another wavy water line from one edge across to the other.
Step 10: The sun
In the sky above the first boom, draw a small sun with 8 short rays.
Step 11: Yellow sun, stone quay
Colour the sun yellow and the quay stone grey.
Step 12: Grey cranes, slate cabs
Colour the crane legs, top boxes and booms grey, and the cabs slate.
Step 13: Red and blue boxes
Colour the containers red and blue, mixing them up. Do the hanging boxes too.
Step 14: Blue water
Colour the water blue below the first wavy line. Go over all your lines. Done!
