How to Draw a Handprint Tree

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a handprint tree in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the leafy top.

Print

  1. Step 1: The leafy top

Above the middle of the page draw a big rounded square, flat on top and bulging on the lower left.

Tip In a handprint tree the palm is the leafy top and the fingers are branches.

  2. Step 2: The trunk

Start on the leafy bottom. Draw a trunk down, curving out at the ground, across and back up to it.

  3. Step 3: A friendly face

On the trunk draw 2 round eyes close together with a black dot and shine, and a small U smile.

  4. Step 4: The middle branch

Right of the middle start a tall branch on the top line. Go up, round the tip, down to it.

  5. Step 5: Two more branches

Draw a shorter branch each side of the middle one, starting and stopping on the line. Leave a V gap.

  6. Step 6: The little branch

On the right draw the shortest branch, leaning out. Start on the line, up, round the tip, down to it.

  7. Step 7: The thumb branch

From the left bulge draw a fat branch leaning out left, getting narrower, round the tip, back to the line.

  8. Step 8: Apples

On the leafy part draw 3 round apples, spaced out, none touching the branches.

  9. Step 9: Ground and grass

Draw a ground line under the trunk from left to right. Add a little 3-blade grass tuft on each side.

  10. Step 10: Green tree

Colour the leafy top and the branches leaf green, around the apples.

  11. Step 11: Red apples, green grass

Colour the apples red and the grass tufts green.

  12. Step 12: Brown trunk

Colour the trunk brown and leave the eyes white. Go over your lines, and your handprint tree is done!
