How to Draw a Corn Stalk
Draw a corn stalk in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the stalk.
Step 1: The stalk
In the middle, draw a tall stalk of 2 close lines, from near the bottom to near the top.
Step 2: Knots
Draw 3 short lines across the stalk, spaced out, for the knots where the leaves grow.
Step 3: The tassel
From the top of the stalk, draw 5 thin lines fanning up like a feather duster, the middle one tallest.
Step 4: Leaves on the left
From the top and bottom knots, draw a fat leaf sweeping out and up to the left, tip drooping.
Tip Corn leaves are long, fat and droopy like ribbons.
Step 5: Right leaf
From the middle knot, draw 1 more fat leaf sweeping out and up to the right, tip drooping.
Step 6: Leaf veins
Start on the stalk inside each leaf. Draw 1 long curved vein toward the tip, stopping just short of it.
Step 7: The cob
From the bottom knot, draw a short stem and a long cob leaning right. Add kernel lines edge to edge.
Tip Draw 2 lines along the cob and 3 across it, like a little net.
Step 8: Husk and silk
On each side of the cob, draw a husk leaf out to a point and back. Add silk on top.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Start near the left edge. Draw a ground line through the stalk's foot, stopping near the right. Add grass blades.
Step 10: Yellow cob, leaf-green husk
Colour the cob yellow. Colour the husk leaves and the short stem in leaf green.
Step 11: Green stalk and leaves
Colour the stalk and all 3 leaves green.
