How to Draw a Hand Holding a Rose

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a hand holding a rose in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the thumb.

Print

  1. Step 1: The thumb

Start on the left. Draw a fat thumb pointing right, round the tip, stop under it. Add a nail.

Tip Keep the thumb fat and short, tilted up a little.

  2. Step 2: First curled finger

Start under the thumb tip. Draw a long sausage finger lying sideways, and stop where the thumb line ends.

  3. Step 3: Three more fingers

Under it draw 3 more sausage fingers. Each one starts and stops on the finger above.

Tip Make the last finger a bit shorter: it is the little finger.

  4. Step 4: Side and cuff

Start at the thumb's left end and curve down the side. Stop low. Add a wrist line and a cuff.

  5. Step 5: Rose cup

Above the thumb draw a rounded cup. Start at a rim corner, sag a line across, stop at the other.

Tip Leave a gap between the cup and the thumb for the stem.

  6. Step 6: Swirl bud

Start on the middle of the rim. Draw a swirl, 2 turns, getting wider, and stop on the rim.

  7. Step 7: Petals round the bud

Start on the rim beside the swirl. Draw a big C over it and stop on its top. Same right.

  8. Step 8: Big outer petals

Start on each cup side. Draw a big petal out, over, and stop on the bud. Add one behind.

Tip The swirl in the middle is what makes it a rose.

  9. Step 9: Pointy leaves

Under the cup, draw 2 pointy leaves like little triangles: one down-left and one down-right.

  10. Step 10: The stem

Start under the cup. Draw 2 stem lines and stop at the thumb. Add its round end under the fist.

Tip The fist hides the middle of the stem.

  11. Step 11: Leaf and thorns

Start on the stem, draw a pointed leaf, and stop on the stem. Add a middle line and 2 thorns.

  12. Step 12: Peach hand

Colour the thumb, the fingers, the hand and the wrist peach. Colour the thumb nail pink.

  13. Step 13: Red rose

Colour the whole rose red: the cup, the swirl bud and every petal.

  14. Step 14: Green and blue

Colour the pointy leaves, stem, leaf and thorns green and the cuff blue. Your rose is ready to give!
