How to Draw a Hamster Cage

13 steps · Tricky · about 10 min

Draw a hamster cage in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the hamster's head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The hamster's head

A little left of the middle draw a round head, wider than tall, with fat cheeks low on each side.

Tip The hamster sits inside the cage, so leave room all round it.

  2. Step 2: Ears, eyes and nose

Draw 2 ears on top and 2 round eyes. Add a nose, a line from it down to a smile.

Tip Eyes in the middle of the head, with a dot and shine. Smaller circle in each ear.

  3. Step 3: Round body and feet

Under the head draw a round bun body, as wide as the head, with 2 oval feet at the bottom.

  4. Step 4: The cage box

Round the hamster draw a big box: start low left, go up, across the top, and back down to stop.

Tip Under it draw a shallow tray a little wider than the box.

  5. Step 5: The running wheel

Draw a wheel of 2 circles with short rungs. From it, slant 2 legs down to the tray.

Tip Put it right of the hamster, nearly as tall as the hamster.

  6. Step 6: The water bottle

Draw a tall upside-down bottle with a slanted spout. Clip it on, from the wall back to the wall.

Tip Hang it near the left wall, and add a water line across it.

  7. Step 7: A play tube

On the tray left of the hamster draw a short tunnel tube on its side, with an oval open end.

  8. Step 8: The bars

Draw 9 straight bars down the cage from top to tray, evenly spaced, lifting your pencil behind things.

Tip The bars go behind everything inside: that is what makes it a cage.

  9. Step 9: Bedding and ground

Inside the tray draw a gently wavy bedding line from side to side. Draw a ground line under the tray.

  10. Step 10: Ginger hamster

Colour the feet and ear insides pink, then the hamster ginger around them. Leave the eyes white.

  11. Step 11: Yellow wheel, blue bottle

Colour the rim of the wheel yellow. Colour the spout and the water below the line blue.

  12. Step 12: Tan bedding

Colour the sawdust bedding and the tray under it tan.

  13. Step 13: Green tube

Colour the play tube green. Your hamster cage is done!
