How to Draw a Grassland
Draw a grassland in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ground and far edge.
Step 1: Ground and far edge
Draw a low ground line and a wobbly line above it, each from the left edge across to the right.
Tip The wobbly line is the far edge of the grassland, below the middle.
Step 2: A grass clump
In the middle draw a clump of tall grass: 3 long leafy blades fanning up from the ground line.
Tip Each blade is a long leaf: up to a point and back down. Stop below the wobbly line.
Step 3: Two more clumps
Draw a clump the same way near the left edge and another near the right edge, each a little shorter.
Step 4: Wildflowers
Between the clumps draw 2 flowers: a middle, 5 round petals, and a stem from it down to the ground.
Step 5: A butterfly
Above the middle clump draw a small butterfly: a thin oval body, a round wing each side, 2 feelers.
Step 6: Far trees
On the wobbly line draw 2 trees: a short trunk from the line up to a bumpy round top.
Step 7: Sun and cloud
Top right, draw a round sun. Top left, draw a puffy cloud: 4 bumps on top and 2 underneath.
Step 8: Yellow sun, pink flower
Leave the cloud white. Colour the sun and one flower's petals yellow, then the other flower's petals pink.
Step 9: Orange wings
Colour the butterfly's wings and both flower middles orange.
Step 10: Green grassland
Colour the grassland green from the far line down to the ground line, going around the clumps and flowers.
Step 11: Dark green blades
Colour every blade of tall grass a darker green.
Step 12: Trees and trunks
Go over your lines. Colour the tree tops dark green, the trunks and butterfly body brown. Your grassland is done!
