How to Draw a Graduation Gown
Draw a graduation gown in 12 steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the gown.
Step 1: The gown
In the middle draw a long gown: a dipping neck line, sloping shoulders, and sides flaring out to the ground.
Tip A graduation gown is a long flowing robe with a flat square cap.
Step 2: Two eyes
On the chest of the gown draw 2 round eyes close together. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and a small oval cheek beside each end of the smile.
Step 4: The V collar
From each end of the neck line slant a line down to a point above the face, making a V.
Step 5: Wide sleeves
Over each shoulder draw a wide sleeve from the neck line's end to a flat cuff. Rub out lines inside.
Step 6: Folds
Draw a long fold line down each side of the skirt, from beside the cheeks to near the hem.
Step 7: The cap
On the neck line draw the cap: a thin band, with a wide flat diamond on top.
Tip Keep the band thin, so the cap sits flat on the collar.
Step 8: Tassel
Draw a button on the board. From it curve a cord off the right edge, ending in a tassel.
Step 9: Ground
Draw a ground line under the gown from left to right.
Step 10: Twinkles
Draw a little 4-point twinkle in the air at each side of the cap.
Step 11: Yellow tassel, pink cheeks
Colour the tassel tip and button yellow, and the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Navy gown and cap
Go over your lines and colour the gown, sleeves and cap navy, around the face, button and tassel. Hats off!
Tip Keep the eyes white.
