How to Draw a Garden
Draw a garden in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the ground.
Step 1: The ground
Below the middle, start at the left edge and draw a long flat ground line across to the right edge.
Step 2: Pointed pickets
Standing on the line, draw 7 tall pickets in a row, each with a pointed top like a pencil.
Tip Leave a gap a bit wider than a picket between them.
Step 3: Two rails
Between the pickets draw 2 flat rails across, one high and one low, from the first picket to the last.
Step 4: The flower bed
A hand below the fence, start at the left edge. Draw a soft wavy line across to the right edge.
Tip The strip under the fence is the soil. The grass is below the wavy line.
Step 5: Stems and leaves
From the soil draw 4 thin stems up the gaps: short, tall, short, tall. Add a leaf to each.
Step 6: Round flowers
On top of each stem draw a round middle with 5 round petals all the way round it.
Step 7: A tree
Draw a big bumpy treetop above the right end of the fence, and a trunk down behind the pickets.
Tip Only draw the trunk where you can see it, above the fence and between the pickets.
Step 8: A watering can
On the grass on the right draw a watering can: a box, a handle, a long spout and a sprinkler.
Step 9: A butterfly
Up on the left draw a butterfly: a thin body, 2 big top wings, 2 small bottom wings and feelers.
Step 10: Cream fence, yellow middles
Colour the fence cream, going around the flowers. Colour the flower middles and the butterfly yellow.
Step 11: Red petals, grey can
Colour the petals red around the yellow middles. Colour the watering can grey.
Step 12: Green plants and grass
Colour the stems, leaves and treetop green, and the grass green around the can.
Step 13: Brown soil and trunk
Colour the soil brown around the stems, and the tree trunk brown. Your garden is done!
