How to Draw a Gladiolus
Draw a gladiolus in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the spike.
Step 1: The spike
Start at the ground. Draw 2 tall lines up the middle that get closer, stopping near the top.
Tip A gladiolus is like a sword: one tall spike with flowers up one side.
Step 2: The bottom flower
Low on the left of the spike, draw a big frilly flower with a short funnel joining the spike.
Step 3: Two more flowers
Above it draw 2 more frilly funnel flowers on the same side, each smaller and tucked behind the one below.
Step 4: The top flower
Draw one more small frilly funnel flower above those, smaller again.
Step 5: Petal lines
In the 2 biggest flowers draw a round middle with 3 short lines out to the left, top and right.
Step 6: More petal lines
Do the same in the two smaller flowers.
Step 7: Buds
Near the top draw 3 pointed buds on the spike, pointing up and out, the last one on the tip.
Step 8: Sword leaves
From the bottom of the spike draw a long sword leaf leaning up left, and a shorter one leaning right.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line under the spike, short of both edges. Add a small grass tuft out on each side.
Step 10: Yellow and green
Colour the flower middles yellow, then colour the spike and both sword leaves green.
Step 11: Red flowers
Colour the flowers and buds red, around the yellow middles, and your gladiolus is done!
