How to Draw a Buttercup
Draw a buttercup in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle.
Step 1: The middle
Near the top of your paper draw a round circle as big as a plum. The face goes on it.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Draw 2 big eggy eyes low on the circle, a black dot in each, leaving a white speck.
Step 3: A big smile
Leave a little gap under the eyes and draw a wide U smile from eye to eye.
Step 4: Three petals
From the circle's top draw a fat round petal up, back to the circle. Same petal up-right and up-left.
Step 5: Two more petals
From low on the circle draw the same petal pointing down-right, then one down-left, back to the circle. 5 petals!
Step 6: The stem
From under the flower draw 2 gently curving lines down to near the bottom, spreading a little wider.
Step 7: Two leaves
A hand below the flower draw a fat leaf out left and back to the stem. Same on the right.
Step 8: Leaf veins
From the stem draw 1 gently curved vein line out along each leaf, stopping just short of the tip.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Draw a soft ground line across near the bottom. Add 2 grass blades each side, not touching the stem.
Step 10: Yellow petals
Colour all 5 petals bright yellow, and give the face 2 rosy pink cheeks.
Step 11: Green middle and stem
Colour the middle light green around the face, then the stem and leaves dark green. Leave the eyes white.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a buttercup, drawn by you.
