How to Draw Ginger

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw ginger in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big lump.

Print

  1. Step 1: The big lump

Below the middle draw a big lumpy bean lying down, twice as wide as tall.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

In the middle of the bean draw 2 big egg eyes close together. Colour a big black dot in each.

Tip Leave a clear gap round each eye, so nothing else touches them.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and a flat oval cheek out beside each eye.

  4. Step 4: A second lump

Start on the bean's top right. Draw a fat lump rising right, open at the end. Stop on the bean.

Tip Whenever a new part joins on, rub out the old line inside it, so it is all one root.

  5. Step 5: The cut end

Close the open end with an oval, touching both lines. That is where the ginger was cut.

  6. Step 6: A knob on top

On top of the second lump draw a short fat knob pointing up. Start and stop on the lump.

  7. Step 7: A knob out left

At the bean's bottom left draw a short fat knob poking out left. Start and stop on the bean.

  8. Step 8: Rings

Draw a short curved ring line across each knob and the second lump, stopping before the edges.

  9. Step 9: The ground

Draw the ground line from well left to well right, just touching the bottom of the root.

  10. Step 10: Yellow and pink

Go over your lines, then colour the cut end yellow and the cheeks pink.

  11. Step 11: Tan root

Colour the whole root tan, going around the cut end and the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
