How to Draw a Gem
Draw a gem in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the gem.
Step 1: The gem
Draw a big gem: a flat top, 2 short slants out, and 2 long lines down to a point.
Tip Like a wide shallow cup on top of a triangle.
Step 2: The middle line
Start at the left widest point. Draw a straight line across to the right widest point.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Below the line, draw 2 big egg eyes one eye apart. Add black dots and round shines.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, draw a U smile from eye to eye. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Top cuts
On the top part, draw a zigzag of 4 slanted lines between the top and the middle line.
Step 6: Bottom cuts
Well below the smile, draw a big V from edge to edge, meeting in the middle.
Step 7: Shine
High on the left, just inside the edge, draw one short slanted line for the shine.
Step 8: A cushion
Under the gem, draw a soft wide cushion with a flat bottom, its top tucked behind the gem's point.
Step 9: Sparkles and ground
Draw 4 sparkle stars round the gem, 2 each side, and a ground line under the cushion.
Step 10: Sky gem
Colour the gem sky blue, going around the cheeks, the 2 top corner triangles and the V band.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Blue cuts
Colour the 2 outside top triangles and the V band at the bottom tip blue, so the gem looks cut.
Step 12: Purple cushion, pink cheeks
Colour the cushion purple and the cheeks pink.
Step 13: Yellow sparkles
Colour the sparkles yellow. Your gem is sparkling!
