How to Draw a Gear
Draw a gear in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the gear.
Step 1: The gear
In the lower middle draw a big circle with 10 flat-topped teeth sticking out all round, like a sun.
Tip Tooth, gap, tooth, gap: count 10 teeth.
Step 2: The inner ring
Inside the gear draw a round circle, a thumb in from the teeth.
Step 3: 2 big eyes
In the circle, above the middle, draw 2 big egg eyes one eye apart. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile from eye to eye. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: 5 bolts
In the ring, where every other tooth starts, draw a little round bolt. Make 5 bolts.
Step 6: A small gear
At the bottom right draw a smaller gear with 8 teeth, so close the teeth slot together.
Step 7: The small gear's middle
In the small gear draw a circle, and a tiny circle in the very middle for the hole.
Step 8: Turning lines
Outside the top left teeth draw 2 short curves following the gear, from the left side up to the top.
Step 9: Ground and sparkles
Draw a ground line under the gears from well left to well right. Add a sparkle high on each side.
Step 10: Yellow middle
Go over your lines. Colour the middle circle and the bolts yellow and the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Grey small gear
Colour the small gear grey, with its middle circle dark grey and the hole white.
Step 12: Dark gear
Colour the big gear's teeth and ring dark grey, around the yellow middle and bolts. Your gear is turning!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a gear, drawn by you.
