How to Draw a Gargoyle Statue

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a gargoyle statue in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, draw a big head, wider than tall, like an egg on its side.

Tip The head is almost half the whole gargoyle.

  2. Step 2: Ears and horns

High on each side of the head, draw a big pointy ear. Add 2 short horns on top.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Below the middle of the head, draw 2 big round eyes, close together, with a big black dot in each.

  4. Step 4: Muzzle and nose

Under the eyes, draw a big oval muzzle low on the head. Add a little black nose at its top.

Tip Leave a small gap between the eyes and the muzzle.

  5. Step 5: Smile and fangs

Draw a U smile from below one eye to below the other. Hang a tiny fang near each end.

  6. Step 6: Pear body, tummy patch

Start under the left cheek. Draw a big pear body and stop under the right cheek. Add a tummy patch.

Tip The body is narrower than the head.

  7. Step 7: Arms and paws

From under each ear, draw an arm down the side, stopping beside the tummy patch. Add a small round hand.

  8. Step 8: Back legs and feet

Halfway down each side, draw a round C leg poking out. Add a fat flat foot with 2 toes.

  9. Step 9: Stone block

Under the feet, draw a long stone block, with the ground line under it.

Tip The feet stand right on top of the block.

  10. Step 10: Bat wings

Start on the body behind each shoulder. Draw a pointy bat wing with a bumpy bottom. Stop near the leg.

  11. Step 11: Spade tail

From behind the right leg, draw a thin tail curling out and up, ending in a little triangle spade.

  12. Step 12: Stone grey

Colour the gargoyle stone grey around the muzzle and tummy patch. Leave the eyes and fangs white.

  13. Step 13: Darker grey

Go over your lines. Colour the muzzle around the nose and fangs, the tummy patch and the block darker grey.
