How to Draw a Louisiana Flag

Step 1: Pole and ground

Draw a tall thin pole on the left, a ball on top, and a ground line from edge to edge.

Step 2: The waving flag

Start on the pole below the ball. Draw a wavy top edge, a straight right side, a wavy bottom edge.

Tip Make the flag big. It has to hold a whole bird family.

Step 3: The nest

Below the flag's middle draw a bowl: a flat line on top and a big U underneath.

Tip Leave room above the nest for the birds and below it for a ribbon.

Step 4: Rim and twigs

Start on the bowl's left side, draw a rim line across, stop at the right side. Add 3 twigs below.

Step 5: Three chicks

Draw 3 small round heads in a row, peeking over the top of the nest.

Step 6: Beaks and eyes

On top of each head draw a tiny pointed beak, pointing up. Add a dot eye to one side.

Tip The chicks look up, waiting for their mother.

Step 7: Mother's head

Well above the middle chick draw a bigger round head. Add a dot eye on its left side.

Step 8: Long bill

From under her head draw a long bill pointing down, fat at the head, thin at the tip.

Tip Her bill rests on her chest, pointing down at the chicks.

Step 9: Plump body

Draw an egg-shaped body from her head down to the chicks. It hides behind the bill and the chicks.

Tip Her body is taller than it is wide, like an egg standing up.

Step 10: Two wings

From each shoulder draw a wing spread up and out. Come back to her side with 3 feather bumps.

Tip Make both wings the same size, like a mirror.

Step 11: The ribbon

Under the nest draw a long curved ribbon. Add a short tail with a notch at each end.

Tip The real flag has 3 words on the ribbon: UNION JUSTICE CONFIDENCE. Write them in if you like.

Step 12: Yellow and grey

Colour the ball, the long bill and the 3 small beaks yellow. Colour the pole grey.

Step 13: Brown nest

Colour the whole nest brown, the rim too.

Step 14: Blue flag

Colour the flag blue, around the birds and the ribbon. Leave them white. Your Louisiana flag is waving!
