How to Draw a Joshua Tree
Draw a Joshua tree in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the trunk.
Step 1: The trunk
Start near the bottom and draw 2 trunk lines going up, leaning in, stopping a little below the middle.
Tip The trunk flares out at the very bottom, like a foot.
Step 2: The left arm forks
From the left line's top draw a thick Y arm up left with round ends, stopping back in a V.
Tip The V sits a little above the tops of the 2 trunk lines, where the arms fork.
Step 3: The right arm
From the V draw a thick arm up right to a round club tip, and back down to the trunk.
Step 4: Left spiky tuft
On the left arm's tip draw a spiky tuft of dagger leaves, long points on top, short underneath.
Step 5: Top spiky tuft
Draw the same spiky tuft on the tip of the arm pointing up.
Step 6: Right spiky tuft
And one more tuft on the right arm's tip, so every arm ends in spiky leaves.
Step 7: Desert ground
Draw a long ground line under the trunk, from well left to well right.
Step 8: Two rocks
Add a rock hump on each side of the trunk, starting and stopping on the ground.
Step 9: Dry grass
Start on the ground and draw 2 little zigzag grass tufts, one by each rock, stopping on the ground.
Step 10: Brown tree, grey rocks
Colour the trunk and all the arms brown, and the 2 rocks grey.
Step 11: Green spiky tufts
Colour every spiky tuft green, right out to the points. Go over your lines and your Joshua tree is done!
