How to Draw a Frog

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide flat head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Wide flat head

Start at the left cheek near the top. Draw a wide flat-topped head over to the right cheek, and back.

Tip Wider than tall. Leave room above it for the eyes.

  2. Step 2: Eyes on top

Draw 2 big circles on the top corners of the head, half on and half off, with a black dot.

Tip Frog eyes sit right on top, like 2 headlights.

  3. Step 3: Smile and nostrils

Draw a big smile from under the left eye to under the right eye. Dot 2 nostrils above it.

  4. Step 4: Squat tummy

Start under the left cheek. Draw a fat tummy down, round a flat bottom, and stop under the right cheek.

Tip The tummy is wider than tall, and narrower than the head.

  5. Step 5: Belly patch

Inside the tummy draw one big oval belly patch, a finger in from the tummy line all round.

  6. Step 6: Arms and hands

Start under each cheek. Draw an arm bent at the elbow, down to 3 round fingers, back to the chin.

  7. Step 7: Folded knees

Start halfway down each arm. Draw a fat bean knee out to the side, and stop on the hand.

Tip All you see of a sitting frog's leg is the big bent knee.

  8. Step 8: Big webbed feet

Start at the bottom of each bean. Draw a flat paddle foot with 3 round toes, stopping on the bean.

  9. Step 9: Lily pad

Start outside the left knee. Draw a big smile under the frog, ending at the right knee. Add a notch.

  10. Step 10: Knee spots

Draw 2 round spots on each knee, a big one and a little one.

  11. Step 11: Light green frog

Colour the belly patch cream. Colour the frog light green around it and the knee spots. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Dark green pad

Go over your lines. Colour the lily pad and the knee spots darker green, around the frog.
