How to Draw a Grey Crowned Crane
Draw a grey crowned crane in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head with spiky crown.
Step 1: Head with spiky crown
Near the top left draw a small round head. Add a fan of 5 stiff spikes on top.
Tip The golden spiky crown is this crane's signature.
Step 2: Pointed beak
Start on the front of the head. Draw a thin dagger beak out to a point, back to the head.
Tip Add a mouth line from the point back to the head.
Step 3: One big eye
A little behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white speck.
Step 4: Slim neck
From under the head draw 2 thin lines close together, bending like a lazy S. Stop a head below.
Step 5: Round body
Under the neck draw a big round body. Its top line crosses the bottom of the neck.
Tip It sits high up, with lots of room under it for the legs.
Step 6: Folded wing
Start behind the neck. Draw a long wing along the back, with 3 feather bumps at the end.
Step 7: Little tail
Under the feather bumps draw a little pointed tail, out and down from the rump.
Step 8: 2 long legs
From the tummy draw 2 thin legs that bend back low down, each with 3 thin toes on the ground.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Start at the left edge. Draw one long line under the feet, stop at the right edge. Add grass tufts.
Step 10: Yellow crown, red dot
Go over your lines. Colour the crown yellow and a small red dot behind the eye.
Step 11: Grey body and beak
Colour the body and the beak grey. Leave the wing, the eye and a cheek oval white.
Step 12: Dark grey head, legs
Colour the head, neck, tail and legs dark grey, around the eye, cheek and red dot.
