How to Draw a Fourth of July Parade Float

13 steps · Tricky · about 10 min

Draw a Fourth of July parade float in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: float and wheels.

Print

  1. Step 1: Float and wheels

Draw a long box with 2 wheels under it. From its top draw 2 short posts up to a rail.

Tip A parade float is a decorated trailer with people riding on it, waving.

  2. Step 2: Two heads and eyes

Above the rail draw 2 round heads a gap apart. On the left head draw 2 round eyes.

  3. Step 3: More eyes and smiles

Draw 2 eyes on the right head too. Give the left kid a small smile, the right a wide one.

  4. Step 4: Hair and party hat

On the left head draw a swoosh of hair. On the right head draw neat hair and a party hat.

  5. Step 5: Necks and T-shirts

Draw 2 neck lines under each head. From the necks draw T-shirts, one sleeve up, stopping at the rail.

  6. Step 6: Waving arms

Start at each raised sleeve, draw a bent arm getting thinner, stop at the wrist, and add a fist.

Tip Let the fist grow out of the wrist, with no line across it.

  7. Step 7: Star on a pole

High between the riders draw a big 5-point star. From the rail draw a straight pole up to it.

  8. Step 8: Flags and ground

Along the front of the float draw a sagging string with 6 triangle flags. Add a ground line below.

  9. Step 9: Peach skin

Colour the faces, necks, arms and fists peach. Leave the eyes white.

  10. Step 10: Yellow star and hair

Colour the big star and the right kid's hair yellow.

  11. Step 11: Red shirt and float

Colour the right kid's shirt and the float red, leaving the flags white.

  12. Step 12: Blue shirt and wheels

Colour the left kid's shirt, the rail, the wheels, every other flag and the party hat blue.

  13. Step 13: Brown hair

Colour the left kid's hair brown. Go over your lines and you are done.
