How to Draw a Flying Snake

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a flying snake in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

In the top left draw a round head, like an egg on its side. Leave the right for the body.

  2. Step 2: 2 big eyes

Below the middle of the head draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, with a shine.

  3. Step 3: Nostrils and smile

Under the eyes dot 2 tiny nostrils. Draw a wide smile: start under the left eye, stop under the right.

  4. Step 4: The forked tongue

From the middle of the smile draw a thin tongue poking down past the chin. Split the end in 2.

Tip The tongue should not touch the body.

  5. Step 5: A flat gliding body

From the right cheek draw a WIDE flat ribbon waving down, up and across the paper to a thin tail tip.

Tip A flying snake flattens its body into a wide ribbon, like a paper streamer.

  6. Step 6: The belly line

Start under the head. Draw a wavy line inside the body, near the lower edge, stopping on the edge near the tail.

  7. Step 7: Bands across the body

Across the wide body draw 6 short curved lines from the top edge to the bottom edge, evenly spaced.

  8. Step 8: 2 treetops

Far below the snake draw 2 round bumpy treetops, like clouds, one near each side.

Tip Keep the treetops clear of the snake, so it glides high above them.

  9. Step 9: Trunks and ground

Under each treetop draw a short trunk, wider at the bottom. Draw a long ground line under both.

  10. Step 10: Yellow belly, red tongue

Go over your lines. Colour the tummy strip under the belly line yellow, and the tongue red.

  11. Step 11: Green snake

Colour the head and the rest of the body green, around the yellow strip. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Wood trunks, leafy tops

Colour the 2 trunks wood brown and the 2 treetops leaf green. Your flying snake is done!
