How to Draw a Flock of Birds
Draw a flock of birds in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
On the left of your paper draw a big round head, wider than tall, with 3 soft puffs on top.
Tip The puffs are 3 gentle hills toward the back, not spikes.
Step 2: Stubby beak
Start on the front of the head. Draw a short fat beak, ending on the head. Add a mouth line.
Step 3: One big eye
A finger behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white shine.
Step 4: Plump body
From the head's back draw a long bean body, sloping down to a round end, then under to the chin.
Tip Let the body lie along behind the head like a bean, not hang under it.
Step 5: Fan tail
From the body's end draw a fan tail out behind and back to the body. Add 2 feather lines.
Step 6: Open wing
Start on the back behind the head. Draw a big wing up high, then 4 round bumps back down.
Tip The wing tip goes up higher than the head.
Step 7: Two more heads
Start top right with a smaller head, beak and eye. End with a tiny one at the bottom right.
Tip Birds in a flock all face the same way.
Step 8: Two more bodies
From each small head's back draw a bean body, sloping down to a round end, then under to the chin.
Step 9: Wings and tails
Give each small bird a raised wing with round bumps from its back, and a fan tail at its end.
Step 10: A puffy cloud
Near the bottom left draw a little cloud: 3 round puffs on top and a flat bottom.
Tip The cloud floats below so the flock looks high up.
Step 11: Cream bodies, orange beaks
Colour all 3 bodies cream, from the chin to the tail. Colour the 3 beaks orange.
Step 12: Blue heads
Colour all 3 heads blue, leaving the eyes white.
Step 13: Navy wings and tails
Colour every wing and fan tail navy, a darker blue. Leave the cloud white.
