How to Draw a Flame Tree

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a flame tree in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the trunk.

Print

  1. Step 1: The trunk

Start low on your paper. Draw up the left of the trunk, stopping where it forks. Do the right too.

Tip A flame tree in bloom looks like a wide red umbrella on fire.

  2. Step 2: 3 branches

From the top of the trunk draw 3 branches up and out, getting thinner and stopping in round tips.

  3. Step 3: The umbrella top

Over the branches draw a wide, flat umbrella top of soft round bumps, covering the branch tips.

  4. Step 4: Blossoms

On the top draw 4 little flowers, spread out, each with 4 round petals.

  5. Step 5: More blossoms

Add 3 more little flowers in the gaps, never in a neat row.

  6. Step 6: Ground and grass

Draw the ground line from far left to far right through the trunk's bottom. Flick grass up each side.

  7. Step 7: Fallen petals

On the ground under the tree draw 4 little teardrop petals, pointing different ways.

  8. Step 8: Orange and red top

Go over your lines, then colour the little flowers orange and the umbrella top red around them.

  9. Step 9: Brown trunk

Colour the trunk and branches brown.

  10. Step 10: Red petals

Colour the fallen petals red, and your flame tree is done!
