How to Draw a Fish Jumping
Draw a fish jumping in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: eye, lips and smile.
Step 1: Eye, lips and smile
On the left draw a huge round eye. In front add puffy lips like a sideways 3, and a smile.
Tip Make the eye really big: this fish is a cuddly toy.
Step 2: Fat egg body
From the top lip, draw a rainbow over the eye down to a short neck. Same below. Close the neck.
Step 3: Bow-tie tail
From each end of the neck draw a fat C out, meeting at a notch. Add 2 lines inside.
Step 4: Top fin
From the back near the middle draw a tall sail leaning back, stopping further along. Add 2 lines inside.
Step 5: Gill and cheek
Behind the eye draw a short C bowing to the tail. Add a small round cheek under the eye.
Step 6: Side fin
Behind the gill draw a leaf lying on its side, pointing to the tail. Add 2 short rays.
Step 7: Belly fin
Under the belly, start behind the side fin. Draw a small sail down and back, stopping on the belly.
Step 8: Scales
On the back half of the fish draw little U's like tiny smiles, in 3 rows stacked like roof tiles.
Step 9: Splash drops
Under the tail draw 3 round water drops flying up, small to big, a little apart from the fish.
Step 10: Water
Draw a wavy line almost from edge to edge. Add 2 splash curves rising from it.
Tip Keep the water low so the whole fish is in the air.
Step 11: Yellow fins
Colour the tail and all 3 fins yellow.
Step 12: Orange fish
Colour the cheek pink, then the body and lips orange around it. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Blue water, blue drops
Colour the water blue under the wavy line, and colour the 3 drops light blue.
