How to Draw a Halibut
Draw a halibut in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: lips and diamond body.
Step 1: Lips and diamond body
Draw pouty lips far left. From them draw a kite-shaped back and tummy, stopping at a narrow tail end.
Tip A kite lying on its side. Leave the right end open.
Step 2: Eyes and smile
Behind the lips draw a big eye and a smaller one higher up. Add a smile from between the lips.
Tip Both eyes sit on one side: a halibut lies flat on the sea floor.
Step 3: Little fan tail
Start at the end of the back. Draw a small fan out, down and in to the tummy's end.
Step 4: Top frill fin
Start on the back behind the head. Draw soft bumps along the whole top edge, up to the tail.
Step 5: Bottom frill fin
Start on the tummy behind the head. Draw the same frilly bumps along the bottom edge, stopping near the tail.
Step 6: Fin rays
Draw 3 short lines from the body out into each frill, spaced out, like the sticks of a fan.
Step 7: Gill and side fin
Under the big eye curve a gill down to the tummy. Behind it draw a small fan with 2 lines.
Step 8: Spots
On the body draw 5 little round spots scattered about, keeping off the fins, the eyes and the lines.
Step 9: Bubbles
In front of the face draw 3 bubbles floating up: small, bigger, biggest.
Step 10: Sand and seaweed
Draw a long wavy sand line across the paper under the bottom frill. Add a wiggly seaweed leaf each side.
Step 11: Sandy floor, tan spots
Go over your lines. Colour the floor under the sand line sandy and the spots tan.
Step 12: Orange fins, blue bubbles
Colour the 2 frills, the tail and the side fin orange. Colour the bubbles light blue.
Step 13: Brown body, green seaweed
Colour the body brown around the eyes, spots and side fin. Colour the seaweed green. Your halibut is done!
Tip Leave both eyes white.
