How to Draw a Chain Link Fence
Draw a chain link fence in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first post.
Step 1: The first post
On the left draw a tall thin post standing on the ground, with a round cap on top.
Tip Thin like a pipe, with a cap like a little helmet.
Step 2: Two more posts
Draw 2 more posts the same height, one in the middle and one on the right.
Tip Leave the same big gap between each pair of posts.
Step 3: The ground
Draw a long ground line under the posts from the left edge of the paper to the right edge.
Step 4: The top rail
Just below the caps draw a thin bar from post to post, in both gaps.
Tip Make each bar about as thick as your pencil.
Step 5: The bottom rail
Near the ground draw another thin bar from post to post, in both gaps.
Step 6: Slanted wires
In each gap draw 6 slanted lines, all leaning the same way. Start and stop on a bar or post.
Tip Keep the same space between the lines.
Step 7: Crossing wires
Cross them with 6 lines leaning the other way in each gap. Start and stop on a bar or post.
Tip The crossing lines make rows of diamonds.
Step 8: Grass
Along the ground draw 4 grass tufts, each 3 short blades from one spot, the middle one tallest.
Step 9: Light grey rails
Go over your lines. Colour the 4 thin bars light grey.
Step 10: Green grass
Colour the ground green, from the ground line down to the bottom of the paper.
Tip Press gently so the green comes out even.
Step 11: Grey posts
Colour the posts grey and the caps dark grey. Leave the diamonds white, you can see through them!
