How to Draw a Finish Line

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a finish line in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two tall poles.

Print

  1. Step 1: Two tall poles

Draw a tall thin pole on the left and one just like it on the right.

Tip Leave room under the poles for the road.

  2. Step 2: Balls on top

Put a small round ball on the very top of each pole.

  3. Step 3: The banner

Near the top, join the poles with a long box for the banner.

Tip Start and stop on the poles so the banner hangs between them.

  4. Step 4: F, I and N

On the left half of the banner write the big letters F, I and N.

Tip Make every letter the same height.

  5. Step 5: I, S and H

On the right half write I, S and H. Now the banner says FINISH.

  6. Step 6: The horizon

Below the banner, rule a long flat line from edge to edge, behind the poles.

  7. Step 7: The road edges

Start on the horizon inside the left pole. Rule a slanted line down to the bottom corner. Mirror it.

Tip The road gets wider as it comes towards you.

  8. Step 8: Three lines across

Between the feet of the poles rule 3 flat lines across the road. Start and stop on the road edges.

Tip Keep the 3 lines close together. This band is the finish line.

  9. Step 9: Sixteen squares

Start on the top line. Rule 7 short lines down to the bottom line to make 16 squares.

Tip Lean the outer lines out a little, like the road edges.

  10. Step 10: Yellow banner

Colour the banner and the 2 balls yellow, around the letters.

  11. Step 11: Green grass

Colour the grass light green on both sides of the road, right out to the edges.

  12. Step 12: Red poles

    Colour the 2 poles red.

  13. Step 13: Grey road

Colour the road grey above and below the squares. Leave the squares white.

  14. Step 14: Black squares

Colour every other square black, like a chess board. Go over your lines.

Tip No two black squares sit side by side. You made it to the finish line!
