How to Draw a Field
Draw a field in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the horizon.
Step 1: The horizon
Just above the middle of your paper rule a long flat line from edge to edge.
Step 2: Crop rows
From the bottom draw 6 lines that lean in like a fan. Stop each one on the horizon line.
Tip Rows look far apart near you and close together far away.
Step 3: Sprouts near you
Near the bottom draw a little sprout in each gap: 2 pointy leaves joined at the bottom, leaning apart.
Step 4: Sprouts further away
Higher up, draw a smaller sprout in each gap, so the sprouts shrink as they go away.
Step 5: A barn
Start on the horizon at the right. Draw a little barn with a rounded roof, ending on the horizon.
Step 6: A silo
By the barn, start on the horizon and draw a tall thin tower with a dome, ending on the horizon.
Step 7: A scarecrow
On the left draw a tall post up from the field, an arm bar across it and a square shirt.
Tip The scarecrow keeps the crows off the crops.
Step 8: Head and hat
On top of the post draw a round head and a hat. Add 2 dot eyes and a smile.
Step 9: The sun
In the top middle draw a round sun with 8 short rays.
Step 10: Yellow sun, grey silo
Go over your lines. Colour the sun and the scarecrow's head yellow, and the silo grey.
Step 11: Green sprouts, blue shirt
Colour every sprout green and the scarecrow's shirt blue.
Step 12: Red barn, brown earth
Colour the barn red, leaving the door white. Colour the field, post, arms and hat brown, around the sprouts.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a field, drawn by you.
