How to Draw a Fennel Bulb
Draw a fennel bulb in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle layer.
Step 1: The middle layer
Below the middle draw a tall egg with a flat top and a flat bottom. This is the bulb's middle layer.
Tip Fennel is a fat white bulb with green stalks on top, like an onion crossed with celery.
Step 2: Fat sides
On each side draw a fat round layer hugging the egg, with a short flat neck on top.
Step 3: Middle stalk
From the flat top draw a thick stalk straight up, a little thinner at its flat top.
Step 4: Side stalks
From the neck of each side layer draw a thick stalk leaning up and out, a little thinner at the top.
Step 5: Middle frond
On the middle stalk draw a tall fluffy frond, like a feather: fat near the stalk, thin at the tip, bumpy all round.
Tip Fennel fronds are as soft as feathers, so keep every bump small and round.
Step 6: Side fronds
Draw the same bumpy feathery frond on each side stalk, leaning out.
Step 7: The ground
Draw a long ground line from left to right, just touching the bottom of the bulb.
Step 8: Cream bulb
Go over your lines, then colour the whole bulb cream, very pale.
Step 9: Light green stalks
Colour the 3 stalks light green, from the bulb up to the fronds.
Step 10: Green fronds
Colour the 3 feathery fronds dark green, and your fennel is done!
