How to Draw a Hot Cross Bun
Draw a hot cross bun in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.
Step 1: A plate
Below the middle draw a long flat oval plate, nearly as wide as the paper. Add a second oval inside.
Step 2: The bun
On the plate draw a wide, low dome for the bun, with round corners and a gently curved bottom.
Tip A hot cross bun is a round spiced bun with a white cross.
Step 3: The cross across
Draw a band of 2 close curves from the left side, arching up over the top, to the right side.
Step 4: The cross down
Draw a narrow band straight down the middle of the bun, from the top edge down to the bottom line.
Step 5: Raisins
On the bun draw 6 tiny tilted ovals for raisins, none touching the cross.
Step 6: A shine
On the upper left of the bun, above the cross, draw a thin curved sliver for a shine.
Step 7: The table
Draw a table line under the plate from well left to well right.
Step 8: Sky plate
Go over your lines, then colour the plate sky blue.
Step 9: Golden bun
Colour the bun golden ginger around the raisins, leaving the cross and the shine white.
Step 10: Brown raisins
Colour the raisins brown, and your hot cross bun is done!
