How to Draw a Fence
Draw a fence in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first picket.
Step 1: The first picket
On the left draw a tall thin board standing on the ground, with a pointy top like a pencil.
Tip Tall and thin, like a ruler standing up.
Step 2: Two more pickets
Draw 2 more pickets the same, evenly spaced to the right. Make one a little taller.
Step 3: The last two
Draw the last 2 pickets the same, so 5 stand in a row across the paper.
Step 4: The top rail
Below the points draw a flat bar between each pair of pickets, from one picket across to the next.
Step 5: The bottom rail
Do the same a hand lower down: a flat bar from each picket across to the next.
Step 6: The ground
Draw a long ground line under the pickets from the left edge to the right edge.
Step 7: Grass
Along the ground draw 5 tufts of grass: from the ground line draw 2 short blades leaning apart.
Step 8: A daisy
Right of the centre picket, draw a stem up from the ground, a round middle, 5 petals and a leaf.
Tip Keep the flower small, below the top rail.
Step 9: A little bird
Draw a bird above the second picket: egg, eye, beak, tail, and legs from its tummy down to the point.
Tip Stand one leg on each side of the point.
Step 10: Cream pickets
Colour the 5 pickets cream, like painted wood.
Step 11: Yellow daisy, red bird
Colour the daisy middle and the beak yellow, then the bird and its tail red. Leave the eye white.
Step 12: Green stem, white petals
Colour the stem and leaf green and the petals white.
Step 13: Wooden rails
Colour the rails wood brown. Go over your lines and your fence is done!
