How to Draw a Family
Draw a family in 15 steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: three heads.
Step 1: Three heads
Draw 3 egg heads: 2 big ones high up at the sides, and a smaller one low in the middle.
Tip Leave a wide gap between the heads. The arms have to fit in between.
Step 2: Dad's face
On the left head draw 2 oval eyes with black dots and shines. Add a U nose and a smile.
Step 3: Mum's face
On the right head draw 2 oval eyes with black dots and shines. Add a U nose and a smile.
Tip Keep the eyes below the middle of the egg.
Step 4: The kid's face
On the small head draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots and shines. Add a nose and a smile.
Step 5: Hair
Draw soft tufts over the top of dad's and the kid's heads. Draw mum's long hair down past her cheeks.
Tip Each one has a hairline across the forehead.
Step 6: Necks and shirts
Under dad's chin draw a short neck and a shirt with sloping sleeves. Draw a small one for the kid.
Step 7: Mum's dress
Under mum's chin draw a short neck. Add a dress: sloping sleeves, a waist and a skirt to her knees.
Step 8: Trousers and legs
Draw trousers under dad's shirt and the kid's shirt, down to the ankles. Draw 2 legs under mum's dress.
Tip Leave a gap between the legs, round at the top.
Step 9: Dad holds hands
From each of dad's sleeves draw an arm down to a mitten hand. Draw the kid's arm into dad's hand.
Step 10: Mum holds hands
Do the same on the other side: mum's 2 arms and mitten hands, then the kid's arm into mum's hand.
Step 11: Shoes and ground
Draw 2 shoes under each person, toes pointing out. Draw one long ground line under all the shoes.
Step 12: Peach faces, pink cheeks
Colour pink cheeks on each face. Colour the 3 faces peach around them. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Peach arms and legs
Colour the 3 necks and all the arms and hands peach. Colour mum's legs peach too.
Step 14: Yellow and red
Colour dad's shirt yellow. Colour the kid's shirt and mum's dress red.
Step 15: Blue and brown
Colour both pairs of trousers blue. Colour all the hair and all 6 shoes brown.
