How to Draw an Erhu
Draw an erhu in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: little drum.
Step 1: Little drum
Below the middle draw a small 6-sided drum, wider than tall, with a smaller 6-sided skin inside it.
Tip An erhu is a Chinese fiddle with 2 strings and a tiny drum body.
Step 2: 2 big eyes
On the skin draw 2 round eyes side by side. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a white shine.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and a tiny flat oval cheek beside each eye.
Step 4: The neck
From the top of the drum draw a long thin neck straight up, with a small round loop on top.
Step 5: 2 tuning pegs
Near the top draw 2 short pegs poking out to the right, each with a round knob on the end.
Step 6: 2 strings
Start under the lower peg and draw 2 thin lines straight down beside the neck, stopping at the drum.
Step 7: The spike
Under the drum draw a thin box straight down to the ground for the spike.
Step 8: The bow
Above the drum draw a thin curved bow slanting across the neck, and a straight hair line joining its ends.
Step 9: Ground and notes
Draw a long ground line under the spike, and a music note in the air at each side.
Step 10: Tan skin, pink cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour the cheeks pink, then the skin tan around them. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Wood, grey and black
Colour the neck, pegs, bow and drum around the skin wood brown, the spike grey, the notes black.
