How to Draw an Empanada
Draw an empanada in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the half moon.
Step 1: The half moon
In the middle, draw a big half moon, flat side down: arch up and over, then flat back.
Tip A fat folded pastry, as wide as your hand.
Step 2: The crimped edge
A finger inside the arch, draw a row of little bumps from the left end round to the right end.
Step 3: Crimp marks
From each dip between the bumps, draw a short curved line slanting out to the edge, like a rope.
Step 4: Vents and a shine
Draw 2 short slanted lines in the middle for steam vents, and a tiny oval up left for a shine.
Step 5: A dip cup
On the right, draw a dip cup: a flat oval, then a U from one end round to the other.
Tip Add a smaller oval inside the top for the sauce.
Step 6: A plate
Behind the empanada, draw a big flat oval plate, lifting your pencil behind the food. Add a rim oval inside.
Step 7: Steam
Above the empanada, draw 2 wiggly steam lines going up.
Step 8: The table
Draw a long line under the plate, just touching its bottom.
Step 9: Tan pastry, sky plate
Colour the empanada tan inside the bumps, leaving the shine white, and the plate sky blue around it.
Step 10: Brown crimp, white cup
Colour the crimped edge band light brown, and leave the dip cup white.
Step 11: Green dip
Colour the sauce green, and your empanada is done!
