How to Draw a Mother Elephant with Her Baby
Draw a mother elephant with her baby in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and trunk.
Step 1: Head and trunk
On the left draw a big round head. Run its front down into a long trunk, curled at the tip.
Tip The trunk is thick at the top and thinner at the tip. This is the mother.
Step 2: Eye, tusk, smile
Draw an oval eye with a black dot. Add a short curved tusk beside the trunk, and a smile.
Tip Leave a tiny white shine in the eye.
Step 3: Big fan ear
On the back of the head draw a big floppy ear, like a fan hanging down past the chin.
Step 4: High round back
Start behind the ear. Draw a high round back, curl round the bottom and stop halfway down.
Tip The back is one big smooth hill.
Step 5: Thick front leg
Draw a ground line. From under the ear draw a thick leg down to a flat foot, then up.
Tip Elephant legs are thick like tree trunks.
Step 6: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw the tummy. Then draw a thick back leg down to a foot and up.
Tip Stop where the back line ended.
Step 7: Far legs and toenails
Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out. Draw 3 toenail bumps on each big foot.
Tip Leave a gap between the 2 far legs.
Step 8: Thin tail
From the top of the bottom draw a thin tail hanging down and out. Stop halfway to the ground.
Step 9: The baby's head
Behind the tail draw a smaller round head. Stretch its little trunk forward to hold the end of the tail.
Tip The trunk tip curls over the tail.
Step 10: The baby's face
Draw an oval eye with a black dot, and a smile. Add a floppy fan ear behind them.
Step 11: The baby's body
Start behind the baby's ear. Draw a round back, 2 short legs and a tummy. Stop at the head.
Tip The baby is about half as tall as its mother.
Step 12: Baby's far legs, tail
Draw 2 more little legs peeking out under the tummy. Add a short tail on the baby's bottom.
Step 13: Light grey baby
Go over your lines. Colour the baby light grey. Leave its eye white.
Step 14: Dark grey mother
Colour the mother dark grey. Leave her eye, tusk and toenails white.
