How to Draw an Elephant Ear
Draw an elephant ear in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big leaf.
Step 1: The big leaf
Draw a big heart leaf standing up: a pointed tip on top, 2 round bumps and a V notch below.
Tip Make both halves match, like a heart turned upside down.
Step 2: Its stalk
Start in the notch. Draw a stalk of 2 lines straight down, a little wider at the bottom.
Step 3: The pot rim
Under the stalk draw a wide flat box for the pot rim, so the stalk goes into it.
Step 4: Pot and ground
From the rim go down and in, across, and back up to it. Add a ground line under the pot.
Step 5: Left leaf
On the left draw a smaller heart leaf hanging down, its tip pointing down and out.
Tip Elephant ear leaves flop over like an elephant's ears.
Step 6: Right leaf
Draw a matching heart leaf hanging on the right side, tip pointing down and out.
Step 7: Side stalks
From the pot rim draw a curved stalk up and out to each side leaf. Stop at the leaf's edge.
Step 8: Middle veins
On each leaf start near the notch. Draw a straight line down its middle, stopping short of the tip.
Step 9: Big leaf veins
On the big leaf draw 6 curved veins from the middle line: 2 into the bumps, 4 higher up.
Step 10: Side leaf veins
On each side leaf draw 4 curved veins from its middle line, 2 into the bumps, 2 further along.
Step 11: Green leaves
Go over your lines, then colour all 3 leaves green.
Step 12: Stalks and pot
Colour the 3 stalks a lighter leaf green and the pot and its rim brown. Your elephant ear is done!
