How to Draw an Eclipse
Draw an eclipse in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the round moon.
Step 1: The round moon
In the middle of your paper, draw a big round circle for the moon, as big as a grapefruit.
Tip The face goes on it, so make it big.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Halfway down the circle, draw 2 big eyes one eye apart. Add a black dot and shine.
Step 3: A big smile
Under the eyes, draw a wide U smile from under the left eye across to under the right eye.
Step 4: The sun behind
Draw a bigger circle all round the moon, a finger outside it: the sun peeking out from behind.
Tip Keep the gap the same all the way round so the ring is even.
Step 5: Four pointy rays
Start on the ring. Draw a pointy ray out and back to the ring. Draw 4, like a plus sign.
Tip Each ray is about half as tall as the moon is wide.
Step 6: Rays in the gaps
In each of the 4 gaps, draw one more ray, starting on the ring and coming back to it.
Step 7: Stars in the dark
The sky goes dark in an eclipse, so draw a little star near each top corner.
Step 8: Two more stars
Draw 2 more little stars near the bottom corners, the same size as the top ones.
Step 9: Rosy cheeks
Give the moon 2 rosy pink cheeks: a little sideways oval under the outside of each eye.
Step 10: Yellow ring and stars
Colour the thin ring of sun yellow, and the little stars yellow too.
Step 11: Orange rays, slate moon
Colour the 8 rays orange, then the moon slate grey around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: an eclipse, drawn by you.
