How to Draw an Echidna
Draw an echidna in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and snout.
Step 1: Head and snout
On the left, draw a big round face with a long thin snout, like a straw, poking out front.
Tip Leave room on the right for the spiky back.
Step 2: Nose, smile, eye
Put a black ball nose on the snout tip. Add a big round eye, and a smile from the snout.
Step 3: First spikes
Start on top of the head. Curve up and back, and stop above the back. Add 6 spikes along it.
Tip Every spike sits on the curve, like little tents on a hill.
Step 4: Back and tummy
Draw a dome from the curve's end to the chin. From the back, curve a coat edge to the face.
Tip The spiky coat is like a cape over a soft round body.
Step 5: Spiky back
Start after the sixth spike. Keep the zigzag going along the dome, getting smaller, and stop at the coat edge.
Step 6: Near legs
Start under the chin. Draw a short chunky leg and paw, back up to the tummy. Do another behind.
Tip Short legs! The front leg sits right under the head.
Step 7: Far legs
Behind each leg, draw the other leg peeking out: a line down to a small flat paw on the ground.
Step 8: Toes and ground
Give each near paw 2 short toe lines. Draw a long ground line under all 4 paws.
Step 9: An ant hill
Under the snout, draw a little hill on the ground. Add a small oval hole on top.
Step 10: Inner spikes
Inside the spiky back, draw a row of 5 short spike lines, leaning back.
Step 11: Sand coat, pink cheek
Colour the spiky coat and the ant hill sand. Give the cheek a pink blush.
Step 12: Tan face and legs
Colour the face, snout and 2 near legs tan, around the pink cheek. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Brown tummy and legs
Colour the tummy and the 2 far legs brown. Go over your lines.
