How to Draw a Dumpling Basket
Draw a dumpling basket in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the basket top.
Step 1: The basket top
Below the middle, a bit left, draw a wide flat oval for the basket top, wider than your hand.
Step 2: The basket side
Start at the oval's left end. Go down a thumb, curve along the bottom, stop at the right end.
Tip The bottom curves like the oval: no pointed corners underneath.
Step 3: The inside edge
Inside the top oval draw a second oval, a finger in, for the basket's inside.
Step 4: Two dumplings
In the basket draw a plump dumpling left and right: a fat round bun with a pinched pointed top.
Tip Like a little money bag with a pinched top.
Step 5: A middle dumpling
Between them draw a third dumpling, a little bigger, tucked behind the other two where they touch.
Step 6: Pleats
On each dumpling draw 3 curved lines fanning out from the pinched top, stopping halfway down, for pleats.
Step 7: Weave lines
Draw a line round the basket side near the bottom. Add 4 short lines down from the rim.
Step 8: Steam
Above the dumplings draw two wiggly steam lines going up.
Step 9: Chopsticks and table
Right of the basket draw 2 thin chopsticks, tips together in a narrow V. Run a table line under everything.
Tip One chopstick lies flat on the table line. The other rests on top of it, so nothing floats.
Step 10: Cream dumplings
Go over your lines, then colour the three dumplings cream.
Step 11: Sand and tan basket
Colour the basket inside sand, then the side and top ring tan, going around the dumplings.
Step 12: Wood chopsticks
Colour the chopsticks wood brown.
